Pablo Absento is an award-winning director based in Tokyo, Japan, where she has resided for the past 9 years. Her first short film titled 'Call My Name' won a plethora of accolades including the "Best Short Horror" award at the Germany After Dark Horror Festival in 2013. Just one year later, Pablo released 'SHI' - another J-horror short which quickly became a festival favorite, winning awards worldwide. Not long after, when the film made its official online release via Fangoria, 'SHI' got attention of the master of horror, the Academy Award winning director GUILLERMO DEL TORO himself, who generously re-tweeted the short. 'SHI' kept garnering attention from every corner of the horror community. And in 2017, the film was featured on the widely-known horror film channel, CRYPT TV. The short proved to be just what horror fans were looking for, with another recognized master of the genre films ELI ROTH even praising 'SHI', sharing it on his Facebook page and spreading word of its existence throughout the community. For some time now, Pablo has been bringing dark Japanese stories to life, presenting them through her own unique perception as a foreigner living in Japan. All three short films she has made to date; including the most recent, 'Slit', based on a well- known urban Japanese legend; leave no question as to why her unique style of film making has earned her the unofficial title of "J-Horror Queen". Absento is currently working in the Tokyo film industry directing commercials and brand movies for major companies such as Toyota, Sony, NEC, Shiseido and many more.
