Karam Gill

Karam Gill is a filmmaker and creative director based in Los Angeles. He is one of today's most sought after pop culture documentations and was recently featured on the Forbes 30 Under 30, Realscreen Under 40, Adweek Creative 100, and was one of Variety's Top 10 Documentary Filmmakers to Watch. His projects use contemporary culture as an entry point to explore larger social themes and are known for their heavily stylized blend of both documentary and narrative aesthetics. Gill made his directorial debut with G Funk (2017) The untold story of Warren G, Snoop Dogg, Nate Dogg and the rise of hip hop's most iconic sub-genre. G Funk had its world premiere at the SXSW Film Festival, making Gill the youngest director to have a feature doc premiere at SXSW (22 years old). Gill then wrote and directed Showtime's doc series, Supervillain: The Making of Tekashi 6ix9ine (2021) in partnership with Rolling Stone, Lightbox, and Imagine Entertainment. The project examined the dangers of our digital culture through the concept of manufactured celebrity. That same year he also premiered the doc series Ice Cold (2021) at the Tribeca Film Festival which used jewelry to explore deeper issues around materialism and racial perception. Ice Cold has since become a bestselling Taschen coffee table book and is an exhibit at the American Museum of Natural History through January 2025 (Gill co-curated the exhibit). Gill also directed and produced the Amazon Prime Video film, Untrapped: The Story of Lil Baby (2022), which also premiered at Tribeca. Untrapped looks at the disenfranchisement of the Atlanta communities that birthed today's generation of rap superstars. He then executive produced and creative directed Hulu's doc series, Rap Caviar Presents (2023). As part of the series he directed a film on Tyler, The Creator that explored the hypermasculine stereotypes projected upon black and brown youth. COMPLEX recently named Gill the industry's top music doc guy, and he is in production on several films and series for a variety of streamers. He is the co-founder and CEO of agency and production company, MGX CREATIVE. In addition to the Film/TV division, MGX works with clients like FUJIFILM, Mercedes-Benz, Levi's, and Uber, on innovative content strategy that appeals to both Gen Z and Millennial audiences. Adweek recently wrote MGX CREATIVE is building a portfolio unlike any other creative agency.
